not eggs-actly how I planned it

The Easter issue of All You magazine was all mine. Sort of. I designed and made the crafts for the issue and it looked like it would be so, so cute. But yesterday when I drove all the way over to WalMart to pick up a copy, it was already restocked with a new issue for Mother's Day! Uh, Easter isn't even here yet. Arghhhhhhh.Allyoueaster

This little egg has been sitting on my window sill in a nest of buttons since Halloween when I did that piece. I was blowing out and coloring the eggs to decorate them when this one broke. It crumpled on the side with a thumb print size dent. Unwilling to throw it out (my bad habits turn out to make sense sometimes), I took a crafty side trip and picked out the shell to make a raggedy side opening window. After it dried, I stuck in some moss (left over from the darling wreath project) and auditioned a loop of ribbon (left over from the adorable card project). Oh, I also backed the ribbon loop with a thinner band of paper to give it a little shape. I glued the ribbon loop inside to the back wall of the egg. While that dried, I cut a tiny chick from felt (left over from the clever mini-basket project), added an eye (marker) and a teensy beak of orange felt. Then I glued the chick to the front of the ribbon loop to look like it was sitting in the mossy nest. To clean up the outside, I used the ribbon to make a folded frame and topped it with felt leaves and a flower sticker (left over from the easy decorated egg project).

It isn't one of the projects for the article, but it sure is cute. If I made it again, I would put a hanger loop of thread through a pinhole in the top of the egg. So if you make this diorama egg, do that first. If you happen to have a copy of the magazine, the projects were designed to be simple and fun to make. They were when I made them, even the uneggs-pected ones. xoC
