The Winter Stitchbook, an online workshop

  • House Wren Studio North Bennington, VT (map)

Join me for a slow-stitching virtual workshop celebrating winter and our love of stitching.

Here in Vermont, winter is a long season of celebration where everyone gets outside to play in the snow. My favorite winter activity is stitching, sitting cozy by the fire, a cup of tea, a scrap basket full of stitching adventures. This self-paced online workshop lets me share that with you while making a fabric stitchbook that is filled with playfully creative images of winter. It comes with a maker's kit that includes just about everything you need to make the book and a series of fabric collages for pages inside. You can follow the instructions and videos as they are or use them as a jumping off point for your own creative making.

*** The workshop also includes the how-to for that pink spun cotton birdie ornament!

The Kit

I'll send you a one-of-a-kind kit, full of vintage and new fabrics I have collected or designed and textiles I've felted by hand here in my Vermont studio. I assemble each kit personally and include everything you need to complete the project. (You will need a few sewing tools like scissors, but no need for a sewing machine.) See below for the full list of materials.

The Instructional Videos

You will receive four exclusive instructional videos from my Vermont studio. I'll show you how I applique with wool felt, upcycle textiles, combine materials, transfer photos to fabric, layer small accents and offer tips for stitching. Learn to embroider new stitches, add your own keepsake bits and build the stitchbook cover to cover.

Zoom Meet-Ups

In January and February, we'll get together in small groups on Zoom (optional) to stitch and talk about your creation. I'll show you how to modify the designs for extra bonus projects to make the best use of your materials and creativity. Ornaments, valentines, sachets, gifts!

The Facebook Group

You’ll be invited to join a private Facebook Group (optional) where you can post your work, see what others are doing and generally be inspired by the supportive comments from other makers. It’s a lovely way to share and feel connected to the group. I will be there too.

My absolute favorite thing about Charlotte's classes is that I walk away with so much inspiration for other projects. I always learn new skills that give me confidence to just try something and see how it works, and I look at materials a little differently with new ideas on what a piece of fabric, lace or scrap can become! I loved the kit. Charlotte does a great job with providing plenty of unique materials and encouragement to look for things on my own. The videos are wonderful and very well done.
