father's day letters

Today I spent a lot of time thinking about my dad. I posted this photo and a little about him roughly 6 years ago here. He taught all of us so much - about being kids and about being parents. We all miss him.

On his last Father's Day - which no one dreamed would be the last one, I was stumped about a gift and I remember Andy saying that a letter about how much I loved him would be perfect. I have no idea what I decided on, but it wasn't the letter. Every year since his passing, I think about that with a little twinge, but I also know that whatever I would have written on paper, I said in other ways every time I saw him, hugged him, took a walk with him, had a laugh. He knew how much I loved him and he knew why. But still .....

Letters are powerful. Andy and I have them too, thoughtful and sweet letters from our girls. So much love, so much to be grateful for. (And hey, that increasingly rare and beautiful handwriting might inspire future craft projects.)

Wishing everyone a happy Father's Day, hoping it's full of good words, spoken or written, simply shared. It's a fine day to be sentimental. Doesn't matter at all if that letter arrives next week.
