Andy, Mo and I attended a candlelight vigil last night for Officer Osso. It's been 5 weeks since the stolen car chase and terrible crash at our Main Street corner. He was responding to the early evening call as the chase raced through town and was struck at the intersection that we all go through every time we go to town. Luigi Osso is still in critical condition with multiple injuries and ongoing surgeries.
It was a hot and humid evening, but almost 300 people traveled a distance to the medical center and came out to show their support.
Our town is so small. The police here are coaches on the school teams, friends, neighbors. We see them in and out of uniform everywhere.
Everyone is anxiously hoping for good news. The best so far is that he is young and strong and fighting hard. It felt comforting to be there at dusk with our community to send our healing thoughts and prayers to Luigi and his wife, Maria and his parents.
Over the holiday weekend, as we honor those who serve, please keep him in your thoughts.
