the wedding, part one

It has taken me a full week to get my bearings again. All of last weekend is a dazzling blur of events and memories that I did my best to keep up with. Layer onto that the most intense emotions and it's still hard for me to get my arms around the whole thing.

But I'm certain of this. Through every minute, I felt as though all of us were completely and joyfully wrapped in the loving arms of our amazing friends and families.

To begin the celebration, our friends Suzanne and Tom went above and beyond, generously welcoming all our guests and family into their home Friday night. Erin always said she wanted the wedding to be a reunion of family and friends. Wow, beginning to end, it was that and more! Although Hurricane Bill cruelly stranded several of our dearest friends in Chicago, it was remarkable to see so many there, all together. From as far away as India, Argentina and Mexico to those who lived just around the corner, we all gathered on their dreamy wrap-around porch for Suzanne's delicious, top chef feast.

Uncle Tom and Elena gave an eloquent toast in Spanish and English to welcome John Paul's family from Chicago and Mexico. Erin's Uncle Ted made us laugh and cry with the Top Ten Reasons to Marry Erin. Thankfully, Dede brought a darling basket of vintage handkerchiefs for everyone.

All these photos are from Tom, Elena, Jane and Mo (edit. new photos added today from Barbara Martin). An abundance of happy faces.

Thank you so much for this love-ly night! Almost as if we were all aglow inside one of those colorful paper lanterns, the evening set the mood for everything to follow. It was magical, charming and sweet, one that we will always remember with smiles, love and gratitude. xoxo
