flower children

On Saturday our garden club hosted another children's flower arranging workshop at the library. Suzanne and I are education co-chairs and this is pretty much what we think our committee should be about...playing and having fun. And it sure is!

Like the workshop we did at the holidays, we set up flower bunches at each child's place...20 children ages 6-12, and let them choose from 2 types of containers. The librarian read a Valentine themed story to the group while we filled their containers with wet floral oasis. Then after a few tips and pointers, they get right to it. No fooling around and they do work fast! The kids are amazing-- focused, challenged, curious, creative, sharing, clever, happy, excited and soooooo inspired to make their special Valentine's arrangements.

Suzanne brought a big tub of valentiney extras like pipe cleaners, foam stickers, markers, doilies, card stock, ribbon. Every little thing was put to use with plenty of pink and red to go around. Afterwards, they gobbled up the cookies and lemonade while they congratulated each other on their beautiful work. It was just so, so sweet and the kids were too. Look what they made!
